Bargaining Update: “A dumpster fire of disrespect and contempt”

“The irony of conducting online negotiations while demanding zoom be shut down shouldn’t be lost on anyone.”

Dear FSU members,

The Point: Encampments: UAW, Homeless, Students

This week’s Point was written by Professor Steve Striffler of Labor Studies.

The past two weeks have been filled with contradictions that reflect not only the polarized nature of our political system, but powerful political currents moving in seemingly different directions.

Dear Members,

The end of April signals the semester end is near.  We are on the homestretch (Kentucky Derby is May 4th) yet sometimes the finish line seems so far away!

Save the Date! May 7th and May 8th

The Point: News You Can Use

This week’s Point was prepared by the FSU’s Ad Hoc Communications Committee

Dear Colleagues:

We were sitting around talking (well, ok, emailing each other) and we realized that we all are having a hard time keeping track of all of the amazing events and opportunities we have been hearing about on campus.  So as a sort of public service, we thought we would digest some of the ones that seemed most timely and urgent.

Starting with today, April 25, 11 a.m.

Nuts & Bolts: FSU Annual Meeting, RES funds, anti-racism events, and retirement forum recording

Dear Members,

Today is Earth Day!   The first earth day took place in 1970 and included activities across the country.  Why April 22nd?  Oddly, the date was selected because it was partway between spring break and final exams plus there is milder weather in April.

FSU Annual Meeting, April 23rd at 3pm

The Point: GEO Summer Woes

This week’s Point was written by GEO Organizing Committee Member Chidimma Ozor Commer, PhD, LMSW. School of Global Inclusion and Social Development (graduating in May!)

Dear FSU members,

As many of you know, we are in the throes of preparing for bargaining. In the meantime, another pressing issue we are currently dealing with is how UMB deals with summer employment for graduate student employees.  The current protocols have negatively impacted countless graduate student employees.
