FSU Update: MTA workplace survey, state pensions and Social Security, transportation survey, and MTA Summer Conference

6/13/2024

Dear Members,

Before you go into full period of non-responsibility mode, we share a request from MTA to complete a workplace survey.  In addition, a recent Boston Globe article provides a good explanation of what happens to retirees on state pensions when you also qualify to receive Social Security.

Nuts & Bolts: FMLA outsourcing, transportation survey, period of non-responsibility, FSU June to August, FSU Executive Committee and MTA Summer Conference

5/20/2024

Dear Members,

This week is why we do what we do.  Commencement week is exciting.  Our students are amazing – they work many hours off campus, commute (this year with multiple T closures), and participate in student organizations. Watching the number of students who rise when the Chancellor asks ‘who are the first in their family to graduate from college’ is heartwarming.

You might be tired from and still grading final papers and exams; but remember you have set your students forward on a path of success.

Nuts & Bolts: May 7th and 8th drop in breaks, NTT promotion intent, an anti-racism event, and tell your legislator to repeal the WEP

Dear Members,

The end of April signals the semester end is near.  We are on the homestretch (Kentucky Derby is May 4th) yet sometimes the finish line seems so far away!

Save the Date! May 7th and May 8th

Join the FSU for a little nosh, chat with colleagues and spend some time gathering with others.  We are hosting two drop by and take a break events.  Both are 12PM to 2PM on Tuesday, May 7th and Wednesday, May 8th.

Watch for a flyer with more details.

Nuts & Bolts: FSU Annual Meeting, RES funds, anti-racism events, and retirement forum recording

4/22/2024

Dear Members,

Today is Earth Day!   The first earth day took place in 1970 and included activities across the country.  Why April 22nd?  Oddly, the date was selected because it was partway between spring break and final exams plus there is milder weather in April.

FSU Annual Meeting, April 23rd at 3pm

Nuts & Bolts: Medical leave update, gender designations, back-to-back classes, anti-racism grant events, Cherish Act support, MTA annual meeting and a save the date

3/25/2024

Dear Members,

This issue is longer than usual. It is so because we have lots of information to share.

UPDATE: Medical Leave and Third-Party Vendor

Last week’s issue informed you we, along with other UMass unions are working together in coalition and will be taking some actions.  On Friday, March 22nd the FSU sent a formal letter to the Chancellor demanding to cease and desist implementation of the new vendor, FMLASource.
