Dear FSU member,

The Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) is holding an all higher education member meeting on Tuesday September 15 4:30 -6:00PM for the purpose of discussing actions taking place across all Massachusetts public higher education campuses - layoffs, furloughs, eliminations of programs, and health and safety issues.

Welcome to Fall 2020 from the FSU

Dear FSU Colleagues,

FSU Executive Committee Meeting this Friday

Dear FSU Members,

The FSU Executive Committee will be holding its first meeting of the semester on Friday from 4-5:30 pm.

These meetings are open to all members.  (contact the FSU or Steve Striffler for Zoom info).

Zoom Background - Labor Day Gift from the MTA!

Dear FSU Members,

Happy Labor Day.   Attached is a zoom background for your use -- courtesy of the MTA...with some catchy slogans about the current campaign to fund higher ed, stop the layoffs/furloughs, and keep our campuses safe.  Enjoy!

Campus Construction Update

Dear Faculty and Librarians,

Many of you have asked the status of campus construction specifically if the timeline has been accelerated with us not on campus and how this might impact those who are frequently on campus and those who might need to pick up materials from your office.

FSU Special Election for vacant Tenured position

Dear Tenured FSU Member,

Welcome back!    September is the beginning of the new academic year and this year includes an election to fill the vacant seat for a Tenured faculty member on the FSU Executive Committee (the Ex Com is the governing body of the FSU and is comprised of elected representatives from the librarian, NTT, pre-tenured, and tenured constituents; for more, see here).

Exploitation of Associate Lecturers at UMB

Dear FSU Members,

As you know, approximately 350 NTT faculty received non-appointment letters this past spring, meaning that they would not be offered classes to teach this fall.

While close to 80% have been hired back, one of them, Maria Mellone, has not.  Maria Mellone was an Associate Lecturer in the Math Department.  She was also a member of our Core Bargaining Team, the first Associate Lecturer appointed and confirmed by the Executive Committee of the FSU to this important committee.

The Point: No Austerity for Solidarity

Dear Colleague,

Sometimes you don’t know it is a trilogy until you get to the third one, right?

Furloughs, Parking, Increasing Course Caps? Bargaining Update

Dear FSU Members,

We just finished our second main table bargaining session, the agenda for which was that administration would respond to the FSU’s proposals (detailed below our signature) and present proposals of their own.

Despite having had over a month to prepare, however, administration did not in fact have any proposals to offer.  As well, they were largely dismissive, without substantial engagement or discussion, of the FSU’s proposals.

The Point: No Austerity for Rage

Greetings, Colleagues,

Remember last Monday?  Me neither, not much anyway.
