Say No to Baker's GIC Changes. Contact your Legislators Today!

Dear Colleagues,

Today union members are gathering at the State House to protest Governor Baker's budget proposal to increase the GIC health insurance premium split for state employees and future retirees.

We have already been targeted for GIC plan design changes that will increase co-pays, deductibles and costs for all of us on July 1, 2015. In addition, the following are being proposed:

·  Active state employees will pay 25 percent of the cost of their health insurance premium beginning on July 1, 2015. Currently, those hired on or before June 30, 2003 and their dependents pay 20 percent.
·  State employees who retire after June 30, 2015, would pay 25 percent. Currently, the state pays 80 percent of the premium cost for a newly retired state employee.
·  The cost increase to active state employees would be $300-$480 more per year for individuals and $720-$1,200 more per year for people enrolled in family plans.
We are asking you to contact your legislators. Tell them what this means to your budget given your own and your family's health needs.
