Call your state reps to support and pass the Cherish Act

Dear Colleague,

As you know, the Cherish Act will provide over $500 million per year to higher education, $43 million of which will go to UMass Boston.  Call your State Senator and Representative to support this Cherish Act:  Click here to find your State Senator and Representative:  https://malegislature.gov/Search/FindMyLegislator.   

Use the attached script to urge them to pass this bill or to sign on to co-sponsor. 

►Come to the State House Hearing on the Cherish Act on Tuesday, April 30, 10:30 to 12 noon, room A1.  See the attached flier

►Come to the rally at 5 pm, Thursday, May 16 at the State House.  More information will follow.             

►The FSU and other unions will be tabling tomorrow, Tuesday April 9 in the main lobby in Campus Center and on Wednesday April 10 in the Campus Center near the catwalk.  Help us table for this and get people to call their Reps.  Fill out the doodle here:  https://doodle.com/poll/f3pqy9fwzn7grapx                                                                                                        

Research and Educational Support money is available for all NTT and TT faculty who are 50% or more for teaching, research, and travel expenses. You should have received an email from your Dean’s office regarding the amount of money you should receive.  Check with your Dean’s office for this amount and for your deadlines.    

►Retirement counseling from the MTA.  Sessions are available in their Quincy and Worcester offices to help members decide the best time to retire, determine if you have buy-back opportunities, provide information on retiree health insurance, Medicare and Social Security benefits, and answer many other questions. Please see here for more information and to schedule an appointment. 

MTA Annual Meeting:  The Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) Annual Meeting will be held at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Friday and Saturday, May 3-4.  Let us know if you want to be a delegate to this meeting by April 15.  For more information, see www.massteacher.org/annualmeeting

►The FSU Annual Meeting will be held Thursday, May 9th, 2PM-3:30PM (ISC, 3rd floor, room 3300).  We will be giving reports, receiving your feedback, listening to your areas of concern, and approving the final budget at this meeting.  New business items need to be submitted by 4 pm, April 18 to fsu@umb.edu to be considered per new FSU policies here
