Dear Colleagues:
A lot has been going on.
► Parking fee increase: We will be sending you a survey soon for your thoughts on this. Thanks to many of you for your thoughts already. In the meantime, for those of you opposing the parking fee increase, please sign and circulate this petition here: https://www.change.org/p/say-no-to-a-huge-parking-fee-increase-at-umass-boston
►MTA Candidates Forum, next Tuesday February 20, 12 noon: in the Campus Center Ballroom A. Candidates for President and Vice-President of the Massachusetts Teacher’s Association (MTA) will be visiting and answering your questions. Those of you who wish to be MTA delegates this May should especially attend so you have information for this contested election. Hosted by the FSU and Professional Staff Unions. Pizza will be served.
►Bargaining update: We have negotiated major changes in distance learning and continuing education. Librarian bargaining is completed, and we have made progress on clinical nursing. See here for further information. We will be holding a bargaining update meeting soon.
► Fourth year/tenure and promotion review informational workshop: will be held Thursday, March 29, 2-4 in the Integrated Sciences Complex, 3rd Fl., Room 3300. The Office for Faculty Development and the FSU will be hosting this.
►Health Care Benefit Cost Increases: These are expected to increase no more than 2% on average per year over all of the (now reinstated) plans. The GIC will be considering this next week at their meeting on February 22. They are still considering making drastic changes in a year, such as having everyone pay for a basic plan and if you want more than this, you would purchase extra coverage. Contact the GIC electronically here and inform them about the kind of health care that you need and deserve.
►Debt relief for UMB. Thank you to all who called your Senators. Unfortunately, the debt relief bill never came up for a vote, but the legislators noted the interest in helping UMB.
