Proposed Increases in Health Insurance Costs- Join the Fight to Stop the Increases

1/20/2026

Dear Members,

Last Friday you received an email from Marie Bowen, Vice Chancellor of Human Resources, confirming when we will receive our January 2026 pay raise.

This is great news but some of that raise may be taken away by changes in our health insurance plans.

The Group Insurance Commission (GIC) wants to take some of it away. They are proposing increases to plan deductibles, a 50% rise in copays for emergency and urgent care visits, and higher copays for PCPs.  Effective January 1st, they made changes to GLP-1 medications by eliminating coverage if used for weight loss.

The GIC works for us.  They determine our rates. They determine our rates as employees and as retirees. We need to tell them not to increase our rates.

Next week, they are holding listening sessions to provide information on fiscal year 2027 plan changes. This is our opportunity to tell them how we feel.

Help Stop the Increases!

What can you do?  Register to attend a Listening Session.

Listening sessions are:

Tuesday, January 27th    12:00PM to 1:30PM

Tuesday, January 27th      6:00PM to 7:30PM

Thursday, January 29th    9:00 AM to 10:30AM

Click here for more information and to register.    Additional details are in the attached flyer.

Let’s send a clear message to them that their job is to serve its members.

Together we can keep our pay raise.

Sincerely,
