Dear Colleagues:
We hope you had a great spring break. The FSU has been busy. Here’s the news:
►Budget Cuts: There remain many rumors and questions and we will update members as we receive more information. The latest email from the Provost to Academic Affairs states that $3 million in cuts for Academic Affairs for FY17 still needs to be made. The memo then suggests ways that Deans or other administrators may implement these cuts (various units have already implemented some of these). We have received assurance from Administration that nothing mandated from the contract has been cut, such as the FSU Travel Funds and the Research and Educational Support (RES) Funds (see Article 26.6 of the contract for more information). .
► FSU meeting to update members on bargaining: Wednesday, March 29th, 2-4, Campus Center, 2nd floor, conference room (2540) (see here for the last update). Attend to hear the latest and give us feedback.
► Health Insurance (GIC) premium increases will be an average of 3.8% as of July 1, 2017. Your specific plan’s costs are here. As our previous update stated, your communication helped stem other adverse changes.
►4th Year Review/Tenure Promotions Workshop: This Thursday March 23, 2 pm, Campus Center 3545. Learn what you need to do, by the FSU and Office for Faculty Development.
►Research Education Support Funds: Submit these to your Dean’s office by May 8.
► A grievance update on NTT promotion issues is here.
► The FSU Executive Committee recently endorsed a statement against hate groups at UMass Boston. See here for more information.
