Dear Colleagues,
We are thrilled to inform you that all summer courses that were cut by the Administration have now been restored. Departments will once again have primary responsibility over whether or not courses run, not the administration! Departments themselves have chosen to cancel very few. (Any courses that do not reach 12 students for undergraduate and 8 for graduate sections will still be subject to cancellation the week before these classes begin, however).
Rather than defer payment for these courses, instructors will be paid on time.
►Almost all of the 60 cancelled classes for the summer have been restored. Fewer than ten have been cancelled, and these decisions have been made by departments.
►The 200 people who attended the Board of Trustees meeting and rally yesterday had something to do with this outcome. See media coverage on:
Channel 5, Fox News, Boston Herald, Boston Globe, NBC/NECN (additional NECN coverage of Summer course cancellations can be seen here), Boston University News Service
►Our work is not complete. Courses for the fall, including courses that fill and that are required for majors have been cancelled. Please sign the petition here, protesting these cuts, the lack of transparency in budgeting and budget cuts, and lack of faculty input.
The Board of Trustees heard us; now we need course restoration for the fall so that students can take courses needed for their majors and lower retention and graduation rates does not occur.
►Reminder! Problems with your working conditions on campus or interested in improving these? Join us at 12 noon, this Friday, April 14 in the union conference room, 2nd floor, Quinn. We will discuss how to support the bargaining team on this issue.
