FSU EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE E-VOTE 5/25/11

 On May 25th, 2011 the FSU Ex Com was sent the following email (the proposal is below; the proposal is from the labor side of a labor/management committee tasked with negotiating the terms and conditions of the public higher ed system’s tuition/fee waiver for employees, dependents, and spouses; the labor side of the committee is comprised of reps from ALL state locals in the Umass systems, community colleges, and state colleges):

 Excom Folks,

 This proposal is the result of the labor side of the committee mandated to negotiate reducing fees for employees’ spouses and dependents at the UMass system.   They are asking us to endorse their proposal.  Would you please weigh in on this?  Thanks.   If you have questions, why not use “reply all”.

 The Ex Com voted by email between May 25th and June 1st to recommend the proposal to membership (8 votes in approval, 0 votes against).

A. All UMass employees, and their spouses and dependents, who are eligible for tuition waivers within the UMass system shall also receive the following waivers of the curriculum/operations fee* on each campus:

·         for the 2011/2012 academic year, they shall be charged at no more than 75% of the curriculum/operations fee rates that were in place for the 2008/2009 academic year;

·         for the 2012/2013 academic year, they shall be charged at no more than 50% of the curriculum/operations fee rates that were in place for the 2008/2009 academic year;

·         for the 2013/2014 academic year, they shall be charge at no more than 25% of the curriculum/operations fee rates that were in place for the 2008/2009 academic year; and

·         for the 2014/2015 academic year and all future academic years, the full curriculum/operations fee shall be waived.

*The curriculum/operations fee has different titles on each campus, This waiver applies to UMA’s “curriculum fee,” UMB’s “education operations fee,” UMD’s “curriculum support fee,” UML’s “operating fee,” and UMW’s “curriculum fee.”

B. For all campuses where employees, their spouses and/or dependents, currently incur costs for courses offered through continuing education, all such costs (excluding application fee, laboratory fee, books and supplies) for enrollment in any non-State-supported course or program offered through continuing education, including on-line courses, shall be waived according to the following schedule.
