3rd Sankofa Conversation – Black Lives Matter

Dear FSU Members,

[Register here for 3rd Sankofa Conversation this Thursday at 6:30:

Hundreds of university and community members have participated in the first two UMB Sankofa conversations on structural racism. These conversations are intended to initiate the university-wide process of transforming UMass Boston into a leading anti-racist and health promoting public university.  These have been challenging and engaging conversations that have addressed crucial issues from a range of perspectives, including those of faculty, students, staff, community leaders, and an elected official. The second conversation was an important exchange over the university’s place within the broader community and the broader community’s place for Boston’s only public research institution. It can be listened to here:

The FSU strongly encourages all members to attend the third conversation, on November 19th from 6:30 to 8:30pm, which will consist of a presentation by Dr. Fania Davis ( and include a roundtable discussion that will include Dr. Davis as well as Dr. Karilyn Crockett (City of Chief of Equity), Dr. James Jennings (former Director, the Trotter Institute), and Dr. Kim Richards (The People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond). Dr. Kibibi Mack-Shelton (Professor and Chair, Africana Studies) will moderate this important conversation on Black Lives Matter, Restorative Justice, Healing, and Transformational Change.
