Help community college adjunct faculty tomorrow at 9 am

12/11/17

Dear Colleagues:

We hope you will shortly have a restful break.  This is what is going on in the FSU:

Support Adjunct faculty in community colleges tomorrow, 9 am at Mass Bay Community College in Wellesley (gather at the main entrance; then the members will be testifying in the library atrium; 50 Oakland St, Wellesley Hills):  The Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC) adjunct faculty who are in the division of continuing education (DCE) bargaining unit are asking for our help.  Their contract expires at the end of this month and they are poorly paid, have dreadful working conditions, and have been offered a zero percent pay raise this year and a 1 percent raise next year (we are being offered 1% this year and 2% next year) with no improvement in work conditions.  Wear red if you can

  • Can’t make it?  Call or email the community college presidents tomorrow, Tuesday December 12, with the suggested text from the attached document.  Suppressing wages for adjunct instructors when they teach 70 percent of the courses in the community college system is unjust, and it undermines the mission of our colleges.
  • On Thursday, December 21, 12 noon at Roxbury Community College (1234 Columbus Ave, Roxbury Crossing) there will be a second action to support these faculty.  Contact  Sean Barrett for more information (sbarrett@massteacher.org).

The union is only as strong as members are involved.  Let us know if you want to be involved in the union, serve on our membership drive, a committee, or help with any of these issues. If you have not yet joined as a full member we urge you to do so now! (contact the FSU office for membership materials).
