FSU Objections To University Policies

Dear Members,

We are writing to you to keep your focus on two recent University policies gravely impact our work conditions, our privacy, and our right to assemble.

Information Technology Acceptable Use Policy

The FSU Executive Committee has reviewed the IT Acceptable Use Policy and has raised serious objections to the University’s assertion of rights to monitor and inspect our personal devices, and the ambiguity over acceptable uses of University-provided devices. 

FSU University Space Use Policy

FSU has demanded that the University cease and desist from its implementation of the new Campus Space Use Policy has filed a prohibited practice charge with the Department of Labor. We believe that the policy has a ‘chilling effect’ on FSU members and infringes on our legal rights to concerted, protected activity. The Nov 21 issue of The Point will bring focus on the Administration’s bypassing of shared governance when they overhauled the Protest and Demonstration Policy.

The CLA Faculty Senate and Faculty Council have examined the Space Use Policy and demanded that “the recent and unilateral changes to the Space Use & Reservation Policies be immediately rescinded and that the ‘Protest and Demonstration Advanced Notification Form’ be suspended until bargaining and meaningful dialogue is had with faculty, staff, and students.”

FSU, CSU, PSU and GEO Union leaders met in coalition with Administration today to reiterate concerns about the Space Use policy.

FSU has demanded that the University meet with union leadership to bargain these policies. We will maintain objections to any policy that curtails our rights to assemble, impinges on our privacy, and presents unreasonable working conditions.
