►We are seeking input on this budget and will be holding a meeting on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2 pm (room to be determined) for input as well.  You can also email your thought to fsu@umb.edu.  A final version of the proposed FY20 budget will be sent to members in advance of the FSU Annual Meeting (members should contact the FSU office for a copy of the preliminary FY20 budget).

►The FSU Annual Meeting will be held Thursday, May 9th, 2PM-3:30PM (room to be determined).  We will be giving reports, receiving your feedback, listening to your areas of concern, and approving the final budget at this meeting.  New business items need to be submitted by 4 pm, April 18 to fsu@umb.edu to be considered per new FSU policies here

► At the October 3, 2018 FSU General Assembly meeting, members approved creating a subcommittee tasked with examining possibilities for a progressive structure for local dues. This committee is still conducting its work, and as soon as this is completed, we will present their findings to members in an appropriate venue.

Let’s raise $43 million per year for UMB:  With the MTA, we are rallying around the Cherish Act that will raise an additional $43 million for UMB per year and over $500 million for higher education in Massachusetts.  Help us in this effort:

  • Lobby your legislators for this and for other concerns you have this Thursday, March 21.  Sign up for the free 11-1 bus and lunch from UMB here or for the 10 am -2 pm full day here (you also get lunch!).
  • Librarians—you can ask for time off from work from your supervisors, and your supervisor has been encouraged to allow for this (it will not be taken out of your personal, sick or vacation time).
  • Sign the petition for this Act and the Promise Act (which will raise over $1 billion/year for K-12 education) here.

Fourth year/tenure review workshop:  by the Office for Faculty Development and the FSU will be Thursday, March 28 at 2 pm in the campus center room 2545. Learn about the process and get tips on how to prepare for these and have successful reviews.

MTA Annual Meeting:  The Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) Annual Meeting will be held at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Friday and Saturday, May 3-4.  Let us know if you want to be a delegate to this meeting.  For more information, see www.massteacher.org/annualmeeting
