Sankofa Anti-Racism – Roundtable Thursday

12/1/2020

Dear FSU Members,

Hundreds of university and community members have participated in the first three UMB Sankofa conversations on structural racism – the beginning of a university-wide process of making UMass Boston a leading anti-racist and health promoting university.  These have been challenging and transformative conversations, including a range of faculty, students, staff, community leaders, and politicians.  They can be viewed here: https://www.umb.edu/sankofa

The final conversation of the semester will take place this Thursday, December 3rd, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.  This roundtable – Where do we go from here? – will be introduced by Ping-Ann Addo (Anthropology), moderated by Elizabeth Sweet (Africana Studies and Environmental Studies), and include contributions from Marcelo Suárez-Orozco (UMass Boston Chancellor), Adesuwa Igbineweka (PSU’s Committee for Racial Equity), Quito Swan (Director, the Trotter Institute), Lorna Rivera (Director, the Gaston Institute), Cedric Woods (Critical Ethnic Studies and Community Studies Program and Director, INENAS), Paul Watanabe (Director, the Asian American Institute), Jemadari Kamara (Africana Studies), Denise Patmon (Education), Tracy Beard (graduate student), and Tony Martin (graduate student).
