Dear NTT Colleague,
We hope you are all holding up well during this unprecedented time. Look for an email from us soon about a zoom meeting with NTTs to check in about how people are handling the rapid transition to remote teaching that we have all been faced with.
In February we sent you the following important language in the FSU contract regarding non-tenure track faculty. This language covers everything from just cause rights, to promotional eligibility, to paid sick leave, and more. The same info from that email is below in the event you did not see it the last time. We want to highlight the time sensitive information in #1 regarding eligibility for promotion to Senior Lecturer and Senior Lecturer II. If you think you are eligible to apply based on the criteria below but are unsure, we strongly advise you to email your chair regardless by May 15th and signal your intent to apply for promotion next academic year (note that the May 15th timeline applies to Clinical Professors, all ranks, as well). If it turns out you are not yet eligible, you will be notified accordingly and can apply when you are next deemed eligibility. There is no penalty in regards to future eligibility if you signal intent to apply now but are deemed ineligible at this time:
For starters, we suggest that you read the FSU primer on NTT contract language. We also recommend that you read the relevant articles in the collective bargaining agreement, particularly Article 21-NTT and MOU 7. Please note that there is language specific to Clinical Nursing faculty (Clinical Associate Lecturers; Clinical Lecturers, all ranks; and Clinical Professors, all ranks) at the very end of this email (unless otherwise noted, all the other provisions of Article 21 will also apply to Clinical Nursing faculty). If you believe your contract rights are being violated or you have additional questions on your rights enumerated below please contact the FSU office.
We want to highlight a few key provisions of the NTT contract language that we feel members should pay particular attention to:
8. Basic Service for NTT Who Are 50% or More: Lecturers, Senior Lecturers, and Senior Lecturer II’s (as well as their Clinical Lecturer counterparts) may have, as part of their standard workload, basic service requirements such as attendance at Welcome Days, assigned advisees, etc. Such service assignments are to be made in consultation with the faculty member. If you have concerns about the nature of the basic service assignments you are given or feel that the assignments are excessive, please contact the FSU (see Article 21.2.1 for more information; also, see this previous FSU bargaining update for a further explanation of the basic service requirement agreement).
