Nuts & Bolts: Upcoming events, U-ACCESS, Student Evaluations, Senior Lecturer IIIs and PMYR, NTT Promotion Workshop and MTA Benefits

11/3/2025

FSU Calendar Nov 3rd to 7th

Tuesday, October 7th FSU Executive Committee Meeting 9:30AM to 11:00AM

Executive Committee meetings are open to all members in good standing. The meetings tend to be a mix of routine, keep-the-trains-running, agenda items along with more substantive discussion about the larger issues facing faculty and librarians.  At tomorrow’s meeting we will be discussing vision/mission statement and membership development plan. (contact FSU or Caroline Coscia for Zoom information).

Upcoming Events:

Wednesday, November 12th Say No to Resilience, and Yes to Resistance, 12:00-1:30PM Ballroom.

Dear Faculty and Librarians,

As educators, we know there is a link between food consumption and academic success.  Eating before class increases student focus and energy.  The suspension of federal food support is likely impacting some of our students and their families.

UMB’s U-ACCESS mission is to help UMass Boston students meet their basic needs so they can achieve academic success.  If you know of a student in need, you can refer a student.

As faculty, we can donate food and toiletry items to the food pantry. They also accept school supplies.

Together, we can make sure our students have nourishment, a key building block to academic success.

Know Your Contract: Student Evaluations

Article 33.8 includes new language if there are no or limited student evaluations available.

Old Language

New Language

Student evaluations and other instruments of teaching evaluation shall be kept on file in the department or program office for a period of six years or, in the case of faculty who have not yet been promoted to the rank of Professor, for eight years.

Student evaluations and other instruments of teaching evaluations shall be kept on file in the department or program office for a period of six years or, in the case of faculty who have not yet been promoted to the rank of Professor, for eight years. If student evaluations are not available for the relevant time period of the review due to factors beyond the faculty’s member’s control (e.g. they were lost, not appropriately administered, or destroyed by the university), this will not negatively impact the faculty member’s review and/or promotion.

Know Your Contract: Senior Lecturer IIIs and Periodic Multi-Year Review

Senior Lecturer IIIs are now part of the Periodic Multi-Year Review (PMYR) process. Upon completion, the Senior Lecturer shall be allocated $1,500.

For additional details see Article 34.
