More possible layoff notices to NTTs and other important information from the FSU

Dear Colleague,

1.       Unfortunately, the Administration may be sending notices of layoffs (either elimination of work or reduced time) for some NTTs with continuing appointments. We are keeping an eye on this latest development (see Article 21.9.4 for more information on layoffs).  NTTs with continuing appointments must be given a year’s notice for either of these.

2.       The FSU is dismayed that some NTTs have yet to know whether they are teaching or not this fall.  John Hess, FSU VP, has written the attached letter to the Chancellor, the Provost, and the Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance regarding this issue.  If you feel the same way, feel free to forward the letter adding your comments and signature  to Keith.Motley@umb.eduWinston.Langley@umb.edu, and Ellen.OConnor@umb.edu).

3.       The FSU, along with our brothers and sisters in PSU and CSU, continue to organize around the UMB budget cuts. We’ll be holding an FSU meeting on September 20th at 2 pm regarding these actions and will keep you updated. Contact the FSU if you want to get more involved in this issue.

4.     NTTS who received non-reappointment notices can apply for unemployment benefits (if you haven’t already).  See https://uionline.detma.org/Claimant/Core/Login.ASPX.

5.     The University needs to negotiate with us regarding mandating a Blackboard shell for your classes.  This means that you do not have to populate these shells for the Fall 2016.  We will keep you informed about this matter.
