Dear FSU member,
This issue of Nuts & Bolts is about our upcoming Tuesday, April 25th Annual Meeting from 3:30 - 5:00PM plus information on upcoming events.
FSU Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting is held for the purpose of hearing committee reports, be updated on FSU activities, adopt an annual budget, adopt bylaws, establish dues rates and other business as needed (source: FSU bylaws and FSU policies). Organizations such as unions are required by law to hold an annual meeting.
Only dues paying members can attend, participate, and vote on items before the annual meeting.
Our bylaws and policies establish a timeline of activities related to the meeting. This year the dates are:
March 27th: Member email to submit new business items.
April 4th: Due date to receive new business items.
April 11th: Member email with annual meeting agenda, zoom link, and related materials (i.e., budget).
This email is our formal notification to you that we are accepting new business items for the annual meeting.
New Business Items
FSU Policies state that all new business must be received no later than 21 days prior to the annual meeting, which this year would be April 4th. The new business item must be submitted in the form of a motion and be sent to the FSU email at FSU@umb.edu. A confirmation email will be sent acknowledging receipt.
If the new business item is monetary, please note the FSU Treasurer will be forwarded the new business item for the Treasurer’s review and to provide a recommendation to the annual meeting attendees.
FSU Budget Adoption
The FSU Executive Committee and the Treasurer are currently working on a proposed annual budget. Discussion on the proposed budget will take place at the March 31st Executive Committee meeting. The Executive Committee will then make a recommendation prior to the Annual Meeting to adopt an annual budget. This recommendation along with the budget document will be sent to members on or before April 11th.
Why should you attend? The FSU is you. We are a member organization. The FSU leadership (president, vice president) and executive committee works for you. Come and hear what we have been doing for you this past year.
Upcoming event: April 6th FSU Forum on the Healey Library
