Summer Parking Pass expiration

Dear FSU members,

The FSU received member inquiries regarding an email notification informing members that their summer session parking passes were expiring.  This is the first time Parking and Transportation sent a communication telling passholders their summer pass expired before the fall semester pass began.

The FSU has contacted both Labor Relations and Parking and Transportation and we continue to do so to resolve this issue specifically to follow past practice and keep summer session passes valid through August 31st at 11:59PM.

We have yet to receive a definitive response.  We continue to push for an answer.

Subject: Parking Pass Expiration email notification

Diane and Mickey,

I write with concerns on this morning's email from Parking Permits Customer Portal <   (email content at the end of this email)  informing us that our summer session parking pass expires today.    The FSU has received member emails about the email. For the record, I also received one.

Why is this a concern?  Past years, summer passes were valid to August 31st and then the semester passes kicked in on September 1st.  There was no gap in pass coverage.

There are faculty and graduate students who must be on campus every workday and some over the weekend in their labs. The P&T email is leaving these community members, due to the nature of their research, paying additional money when in past years they did not need to so do.  At a minimum there is an additional cost of $45 when the pass costs $70.

This is the first time this has happened.   To be informed of a change in interpreting the MOA today that goes into effect in twelve hours is unfortunate.

We go into parking bargaining on September 29th where all parking options will be on the table. In the meantime, we ask that past practice be honored and adjust the parking software to have summer passes expire at 11:59PM on Wednesday, August 31st.
