Dear Colleague,
Initiated by 16-year-old Greta Thunberg of Sweden, there are many activities around the climate strike this Friday—starting today. Please join in if you can:
The Big Event in Downtown Boston this Friday, Sept 20:
The Boston events will start at City Hall Plaza at 10am. A rally with speeches and music will be held there from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a march to the State House. UMB Students, Staff and Faculty will leave from the CC UL Shuttle Stop at 10:30am.
Why These Activities?
The MTA voted to support the student-led Global Climate Strike on Sept. 20 after a presentation by students involved in the Sunrise Movement. Other local Climate Strike partner organizations include Sunrise Movement Boston, 350 Massachusetts, Mothers Out Front, Extinction Rebellion MA, UU Mass Action, GreenRoots, League of Women Voters of Massachusetts, March For Our Lives MA, Clean Water Action, Divest Harvard, Mass Sierra Club, Climate Action Now, Toxics Action Center and Oxfam.
See this Labor Network for Sustainability video that shares perspectives from many different unions on why they see climate change as a union issue.
Sincerely,
Marlene Kim
