FSU Executive Committee Meeting Minutes
March 21, 2023 (Zoom)
Executive Committee Members Present: Caroline Coscia (President); Jeff Melnick (Vice President); Chris Barcelos; Dana Commesso; Sana Haroon; Jessica Holden; Linda Liu; Jose Martinez-Reyes; Brian White
Others Present: Lorenzo Nencioli (FSU Senior Staff Member); Joel Fish (FSU member); Janna Kellinger (FSU member)
2.Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve draft Executive Committee minutes of the March 7, 2023 meeting. Motion seconded. Motion passes.
3.March 24 Teach-In: Sana gives update on the teach-in: Updated petition language and got 200 signatures. Received $200 from the Chancellor’s Office. The Chancellor’s Office sent schedule for the day and provided administrative support. Discussion of Sodexo’s monopoly on campus food service and our inability to order from outside caterers. We could ask Diane D’Arrigo to review the Sodexo contract; PSU and CSU might want to join us. Also, we should revisit invoking our contractual right to meet with the Chancellor again given the seeming “openness” he is currently exhibiting.
4.March 23 MTA Petition Delivery: Caroline: Delivery of parameters petition to the Chancellor. Meet at 12:45 in front of union office. Will probably send something tomorrow to members.
5.FSU Budget: Discussion. Caroline and Lorenzo will meet to discuss FY24 draft budget. Review current YTD spending and items which will/may impact next year’s budget. Best effort to give FSU leadership direction on the budget.
6.Annual Meeting, April 25: We will draft an agenda for the meeting and see who wants to take on different roles.
7.Fall 2023 CLRs/stipends: Need to confirm that Heidi Stanish is taking a CLR in the spring, not the fall. Motion to give 2 general CLRs to Caroline and Sana and 1 NTT grievance officer CLR to Trei Martin in the fall. Motion seconded. Motion passes.
8.Academic Freedom: We need for the Administration to agree that faculty will not be harmed in personnel reviews by bullying/attacks from Rate My Professor, right-wing websites, or similar sources. W need the Administration to make a policy on this and to publicly inform the faculty. We also need for the Administration to have an action/response plan for when faculty are attacked, doxed, etc. What is the policy on listing faculty emails and phone numbers on university website?
9.Library and FSU Support: Two upcoming events: Archives Open House, March 30, 1:30-3:30; virtual forum on library building and librarian work conditions, April 6, 12:30-2:00. After the forum, the FSU will draft a resolution on the library to be sent to the membership.
10.CBT/CAT Updates: First CAT (Contract Action Team) meeting this Friday. Team comprises 10-11 members. Ready to go!
