EXECUTIVE SESSION ENDS
- Update from the Elections Committee: The initial nomination deadline has passed. There were multiple open seats for which the committee did not receive any nominations, and a couple of nominations came in a few minutes late, so the Elections Committee extended the deadline to this Friday. The committee is still seeking candidates. There will be a candidates’ forum, but no date has been determined yet. There are a couple of contested seats. There are a couple of positions with no nominations. The Elections Committee will not tell the Executive Committee which positions have not received nominations.
- Spring Membership Outreach Plan: Discussion of a plan to recruit new FSU members. We will focus on pre-tenure faculty and Senior Lecturer IIIs. Lorenzo has a list of all new faculty members who have not yet joined the FSU. Direct asks and conversations with someone you know are very powerful. This is a growing issue post-Janus: current members didn’t leave the union, but newly hired unit members are not joining. Executive Committee members should plan to speak with people that we know. Maria offers to go with people to have these conversations. We could have an FSU table at events funded by the FSU Antiracism Fund as well as all other FSU-sponsored events.
- Fall 2024 CLRs/Stipends: Discussion of CLRs and stipends for the fall 2024 semester, including those for the Core Bargaining Team and those stipulated in Article 5 of the contract. FSU must send a list of names to the Administration prior to registration for the fall semester, at the end of March or beginning of April. Two motions: Motion to approve one CLR for Caroline for fall 2024 contingent on her winning the election for FSU President. Motion seconded. Motion passes. Motion to approve two CLRs for Vice President and a grievance officer for fall 2024. Motion seconded. Motion passes.
- Adding X as a Gender Designation: All five campus unions (FSU, DCU, PSU, CSU, GEO) asked HR to add X as a gender designation to all university forms. Marie Bowen replied that the university system is working on this issue and will be announcing this change shortly. Brief discussion of preferred names for student diplomas: faculty have asked the Administration for this and were first told that diplomas are legal documents. Last year the Administration said this had already been done.
- Campus Events that are Funded by FSU: Discussion of the process for approving FSU events, publicizing them, and fairness for how FSU money is used. There was a flyer for four FSU-funded antiracism events. These events need to be publicized equally. FSU is doing a lot of antiracist work – we need to feature that work and make sure that people can put the events on their calendars.
